An Evening to Remember: Kira Mae Kazuko Leads Mental Health Month Kickoff at The Miami Beach EDITION

Miami, FL — On Monday, May 5, guests gathered beneath the warm glow of candlelight inside the Basement Wellness Club at The Miami Beach EDITION for an evening of intentional stillness, emotional grounding, and mindful connection.
Curated and led by Kira Mae Kazuko, the hotel’s Breathwork Artist in Residence, this complimentary experience marked the kickoff of Mental Health Awareness Month at The EDITION. Designed in collaboration with the hotel’s culture and wellness programming, the event was a gift to both Cura’s private student community and EDITION hotel guests—offering an intimate space to pause, breathe, and prioritize inner well-being.
Surrounded by ambient lighting and a sense of collective calm, attendees were guided through a gentle yet powerful sequence of breathwork and meditation—each element curated to support nervous system regulation, mental clarity, and emotional reset.
“You can’t access a true meditative state if your nervous system is still in fight or flight,” Kira explained as the class opened. “We begin by regulating the breath—because only when the body is safe can the mind truly settle.”
This philosophy is the foundation of Kira’s work. As she teaches, it is nearly impossible to meditate effectively when the body is stuck in a sympathetic, stressed state. Dysregulated breathing keeps the nervous system on high alert, making it difficult—if not impossible—to drop into the parasympathetic “rest and digest” mode where meditation becomes accessible.
Kira’s approach begins with the breath, helping her students discover personalized techniques that calm their physiology and open the gateway to deeper presence.
“Meditation is not something only ‘some people’ can do. Everyone can meditate—it’s just a matter of finding the tools that help your body get there. And that always starts with the breath.”
Through this lens, the evening became more than just a wellness gathering. It became an empowering reframe for those who’ve ever felt like they “couldn’t meditate”—a soft and supportive return to the self through breath, nervous system awareness, and quiet inner presence.
Hosted inside one of Miami’s most culturally iconic properties, this event is part of The Miami Beach EDITION’s growing commitment to mindfulness, luxury, and meaningful community offerings. Together with Kira Mae Kazuko, the hotel continues to evolve its identity as a destination where wellness meets modern elegance.
Another Evening Reset will take place on Sunday, May 19—offering a mid-month opportunity to realign, reflect, and restore.
This is mindfulness, made beautiful. And it begins with the breath.
